Botanical Painting ‘Spring Flowers’ – Many spring flowers are yellow, which is a difficult colour to handle for plant illustrators. Too much shadow makes the flower look dirty or dying, instead of looking brisk and spring-like, but too pale means the image has no ‘punch’, so it just fades into the paper. Getting the strategies right in handling yellows is a skill well worth acquiring because it can apply at any time through the year as well.
