ABOUT THIS COURSE
The Wonders of Watercolour
On this course you will be shown how to paint landscapes, still life and animals with the versatile medium of watercolour. Using photographs supplied by the tutor you will be shown techniques such as wet in wet, wet on dry, lifting and blotting, using white paint, colour mixing, different brush marks, painting fur, feathers, flowers, sketching with pen and wash and how to use coloured pencils on top of the paint. Each painting will be demonstrated, step by step, by the tutor. No previous experience necessary. Suitable for all abilities.

Stormy sky using white paint with watercolour
Surface: 1 x A4 or equivalent pad of ‘Not’ surface watercolour paper 140lb/300gsm
‘Not’ refers to the surface texture of the paper and is also known as CP (cold pressed) or Bockingford
Brushes: 1 x size 10 or 12 and 1 x size 4 round watercolour brush.
Paint: Watercolour paint, either tubes or pans.
If bringing tubes then you will need 1 white mixing palette or china plate
Recommended colours: Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Viridian Green, White paint such as Gouache, Chinese White or White Ink
Pens: 1 x black, waterproof sketching pen. I recommend a size 02, 03 or 04 in one of the following makes:
Pilot Dr drawing Pen, Edding Profipen, Mitsibushi Pin Pen, Faber Castell Pitt Pen (size F, S or XS)
A selection of colour pencils (crayons) Either normal crayons or watercolour pencils. As many different colours as possible.
1 x water receptacle (jam jar or plastic container)
Tissues, 2B pencil, eraser
ZOOM participants: Please make sure you have everything out and ready to use at the start of each online session.
The reference photo will be emailed to you before each session.
