Making Magic with Watercolour: Step-by-Step Projects
Making magic with watercolour is an 11-week beginner-friendly course that gently guides you through the fundamentals of watercolour painting. You’ll explore brush techniques, colour blending, washes, layering, and more—all through simple, engaging projects such as landscapes, seascapes and animals that build your skills step by step. Each lesson is designed to boost your confidence while encouraging creativity and self-expression. With a relaxed, supportive approach, you’ll learn how to create beautiful, flowing paintings. Whether you’re completely new to painting or rediscovering your creative side, this course will help you unlock the joy and magic of watercolour—one brushstroke at a time. No previous experience necessary. Suitable for all abilities.

Suggested Materials
Surface: 1 x A4 or equivalent pad of ‘Not’ surface watercolour paper 140lb/300gsm
‘Not’ refers to the surface texture of the paper and is also known as CP (cold pressed) or Bockingford
Brushes: 1 x size 10 or 12 and 1 x size 4 round watercolour brush.
Paint: Watercolour paint, either tubes or pans.
If bringing tubes then you will need 1 white mixing palette or china plate
Recommended colours: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue (optional), Cadmium Yellow Pale, Lemon Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red
White paint such as Gouache, Chinese White or White Ink
A waterproof, black sketching pen. Size 02, 03, 04, or 05.
1 x water receptacle (jam jar or plastic container)
Tissues, 2B and 4B pencil, eraser, ruler
